Materials Handling Training Program Stock-Warehouse-Sales Associate

WWRC’s Materials Handling Training Program currently offers one (1) Career Pathway:

A student may complete one (1) Career Pathway if demonstrating proper competency per the Vocational Skills Records (VSR’s) on each Career Pathway.

Each Training Program curriculum and expected knowledge, skills, and abilities are developed in partnership with a designated Occupational Advisory Committee.

Materials Handling Training Program

Training Program Description: WWRC's Materials Handling Training Program is an approved program by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).

Students enrolled in the Materials Handling Training Program may earn the OSHA 10 workforce certificate and are given the opportunity to attain the Virginia Career Readiness Certificate.

Supplemental Forklift Operator Training (54 clock hours/9 training days) may be pursued in conjunction with the Materials Handling Training Program, based on employment goals and objectives. Due to safety concerns regarding forklift operation, students wishing to pursue this supplemental training must also have a current and valid driver's license or be working towards such with a current and valid learner's permit.

Program Length 375 clock hours (60 training days/3 months) (1 Semester)
Prerequisites:
  • Meet WWRC admission criteria
  • Be able to read simple information including detailed reports and forms such as invoices, purchase orders, inventory sheets, receiving logs and sales tickets
  • Be able to follow simple written or oral instructions of one to four steps
  • Be able to count up to 100 and perform simple addition, subtraction, and multiplication of whole numbers and decimals up to three digit numbers with the use of a calculator
  • Be able to lift between 25 to 50 pounds on an occasional basis
Completion Requirements: A student must demonstrate mastery of a minimum 80% of core competencies, as documented on the Vocational Skills Record to be eligible for graduation.
Employment Settings: Graduates acquire the skills and knowledge for employment in entry-level Materials Handling positions in locations that may include, but are not limited to: grocery departments, retail stores, pharmacies, warehouses, distribution centers, and, lumber yards. Job titles may include Materials Merchandiser, Sales Associate, Lumberyard Worker, Produce or Frozen Foods Clerk, Parts Clerk, and Warehouse Worker.
