Culinary Skills/Food Service Training Dishwasher | Dining Room Attendant | Food Service Worker

WWRC’s Culinary Skills/Food Service Training Program currently offers three (3) Career Pathways:

A student may complete one (1), two (2), or all three (3) Career Pathways if demonstrating proper competency per the Vocational Skills Records (VSR’s) on each Career Pathway.

Each Training Program curriculum and expected knowledge, skills, and abilities are developed in partnership with a designated Occupational Advisory Committee.

Culinary Skills/Food Service Training Program

Training Program Description: WWRC's Culinary Skills/Food Service Training Program is an approved program by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).

Students enrolled in the WWRC Culinary Skills/Food Service Training Program have the opportunity to obtain ServSafe and Customer Service workplace certifications.


Dishwasher

Program Length 375 clock hours (60 training days/3 months) (1 Semester)
Prerequisites:
  • Meet WWRC admission criteria
  • Be able to tolerate job expectations of walking, stooping, and standing for up to four hours at a time and lifting up to 35 pounds
  • Have sufficient vision and use of arms and hands
  • Have good communication skills
  • Be able to follow simple oral (gestured) and written directions
  • Be free from communicable diseases
  • Be free from involuntary physical reactions creating unsanitary conditions
Completion Requirements: A student must demonstrate mastery of a minimum 80% of core competencies, as documented on the Vocational Skills Record to be eligible for graduation.
Employment Settings: Graduates of this training program obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities for entry level employment in cafeterias, hospital kitchens, and institutional facility kitchens (day care, nursing homes, schools).

Dining Room Attendant

Program Length 325 clock hours (52 training days/2.6 months) (1 Semester)
Prerequisites:
  • Meet WWRC admission criteria
  • Be able to tolerate job expectations of walking, stooping, and standing for up to four hours at a time and lifting up to 35 pounds
  • Have sufficient vision and use of arms and hands
  • Have good communication skills
  • Be able to follow simple oral (gestured) and written directions
  • Be free from communicable diseases
  • Be free from involuntary physical reactions creating unsanitary conditions
Completion Requirements: A student must demonstrate mastery of a minimum 80% of core competencies, as documented on the Vocational Skills Record to be eligible for graduation.
Employment Settings: Graduates of this training program obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities for entry level employment in cafeterias, hospitals, institutional facilities, lunchrooms and coffee shops. Job Titles may include: Busser; Bus Person; and, Bar Back.

Food Service Worker

Program Length 550 clock hours (88 training days/4.4 months) (2 Semesters, plus a Summer Term)
Prerequisites:
  • Meet WWRC admission criteria
  • Be able to tolerate job expectations of walking, stooping, and standing for up to four hours at a time and lifting up to 35 pounds
  • Have sufficient vision and use of arms and hands
  • Have good communication skills
  • Be able to follow simple oral (gestured) and written directions
  • Be free from communicable diseases
  • Be free from any involuntary physical reactions creating unsanitary conditions
  • Ability to read and compute recipes requiring measurements
Completion Requirements: A student must demonstrate mastery of a minimum 80% of core competencies, as documented on the Vocational Skills Record to be eligible for graduation.
Employment Settings: Graduates of this training program obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities for entry level employment in cafeterias, hospitals, institutional facilities, lunchrooms and coffee shops. Job Titles may include: Cook’s Helper, Food Service Worker, and Deli Worker.
